Mistaken Identity2013/11/27 at 08:13AM by Mark
Went to a classical music concert on Saturday - The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. All very lovely until the end. I bumped into a couple of students and was chatting with one of them in the entrance foyer. Afterwards I turned around and there was a lady in her 60’s standing there. “Thank you very much,” she says in Japanese. “You’re very welcome,” I reply with confidence, thinking that this lady was my student’s grandmother and was expressing her gratitude for the effort I make in teaching her.
Then she says, “It was very moving.” She thinks I’m the conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra! I can’t tell her she’s made a mistake because I’ve already said, “You’re welcome,” but I neither can I lie. So I smile graciously, tell her, “Oh, it was nothing,” and run away before she can ask me any questions.
